Choosing Between A Building With A Doorman Or A Building Without One

A doorman at your building can seem like a luxury; however, to some, the doorman is a necessity. If you are in the market to purchase an apartment, you will want to consider the pros and cons of a building with a doorman and decide which is best for you.

A building that employs a doorman can cost you more monthly than one without. However, the added security of a doorman is usually considered worth the price.

Security is generally a main concern of those looking for a new apartment, especially if you are purchasing an apartment in a busy city. Therefore, owning an apartment that has a doorman in the building is usually easier to resell should you need to move in the future.

Those that are not fond of the doorman are usually those individuals who feel that their privacy is invaded by the presence of a doorman. However, to most people, having a doorman that knows you and those in your building is a comforting thought.

If your apartment does not have a doorman, visitors can come and go freely. This can make your building more susceptible to robberies and crimes. However, with a doorman, all visitors are usually checked and screened before entering the building. This is a great advantage to having a doorman.

For those that lead busy lives, having a doorman readily available at your building to accept packages and supervise repairmen can be a blessing. You will save time and money not having to chase your packages down at the post office or take time off work to let the dishwasher repair person into your apartment. In addition, if you are in a hurry, your doorman may even hail a cab for you, saving your time and frustration.

It is important to note that a doorman secured building is generally more expensive. Therefore, if you are in a secure apartment and are not concerned with answering doors and hailing cabs, you can save a lot monthly by going with a building without a doorman.

Living in a building with or without a doorman is all about personal preferences. There are definitely advantages and disadvantages to either way. So weigh the pros and cons and decide which is best for you and your budget.
